Vazhappu Vadai

This is a very tasty starter and  also a good side dish for curd rice. Kids who normally will not have eat vazhappu, will definitely like this.

Ingredients

Vazhai poo – (cleaned & chopped) – 1 cup
Channa dal – 3/4 cup
Red chilli – 2-3
Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
Onion – (Finely chopped) – 1/2 cup
Coriander leaves (Finely chopped)  – As Needed
Salt  As needed
Oil – As needed for deep frying

How To

  • Soak dal for 3-4 hours.In a blender, grind dal after draining the water. Add chilli, fennel seeds to the dal and grind coarsely.
  • Then add the cut vazhaipoo and grind it to meduim coarseness.(If it is very coarse, vadai might start break up while frying)
  • Remove from blender, transfer to a bowl, add onion, coriander, salt and mix well. The more finely the onion is chopped more will be the taste.
  • Make medium sized vadai / patty  in your palm.
  • Heat oil in a kadai, Fry the vadai in medium flame. Fry both sides until golden brown and crispy.
  • The flavour can be tasted better when cooled.
